Hieronymus Bosch was an Dutch painter from the 15th and 16th century whose paintings remain famous around Europe even today. Bosch is a key Dutch artist from a country who have given the art world many key artists. Bosch paintings regularly used great qualities in painting technique, style and accuracy to portray various religious and moral topics of the time.
Less than 25 oil paintings remain directly attributed to the artist, with most unsigned as was the way for the time. By the late sixteenth-century, Philip II of Spain bought up many of Bosch’s paintings. Because of this the Prado Museum in Madrid now owns many of the most famous Bosch paintings including The Garden of Earthly Delights, the circular tabletop of The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things, the The Haywain Triptych and The Stone Operation.
