Some fantastic American paintings can be found in this gallery of Church paintings here. He was inspired by the works of Hudson River School creator Thomas Cole, and combined that with his own travel experiences and love of landscape oil painting.Frederic Edwin Church was an American landscape painter who left a great legacy through his participation in the Hudson River School, which was a group of like minded artists who combined styles of realism and romanticism with the natural North American landscape. He starred alongside the likes of Bierstadt, Moran and Cole in contributing a key element of 19th century American painting.

Frederic Edwin Church exhibited his paintings at the exhibitions of the National Academy of Design, the American Art Union, and at the Boston Art Club. He joined the likes of famous American artists like Thomas Cole, Asher Brown Durand, John F. Kensett, and Jasper F. Cropsey. It was here that the art press began to accept and enjoy landscape painting, and those involved here were termed the Hudson River School artists.
