The Romanticist era marked the start of the development of art towards what became impressionism, which itself was begun in Paris. It was an important point in the progression away from traditional forms such as renaissance and baroque painting towards what we have now in the modern contemporary period.

Delacroix’s oil paintings remain supremely popular across France and indeed internationally, with the Romantic art movement still drawing great crowds to exhibitions for the likes of Turner, Constable and Delacroix.
