Hans Holbein

German art has been highly influential upon the overall direction of European art over the past few centuries and has been strong in several different art movements which we will cover in this post.

Caspar David Friedrich for example was a skilled romanticist painter who covered landscapes in an innovative style over many years. This art movement was all about adding one’s own emotions into the work and was an important pre-cursor to the impressionists which was an art movement that began in France around the mid-19th century.

Additional to German art influence was Hans Holbein, famous today for his highly publicized portraits of the English King Henry VIII. Holbein built a strong reputation after moving to the UK where he was to become highly connected with politicians, religious leaders and also members of the Royal Family, which at the time was in England only.

Hans Holbein may not be as academically respected as some other German painters but he certainly was important as a portrait painter and his career also has great historical significance because of the way that it provides visual records of many key members of English society during the 16th century.

Albrecht Durer was perhaps the most significant of all artists mentioned here and his career came several centuries earlier at a time when European art was really in a transitional phase. Durer was highly skilled in many different art mediums and this helped to single him out as someone with ability and ideas that were perhaps ahead of his time in a similar way to the Italian Renaissance masters.

Picasso Gallery

The Picasso galleries that exist around the world are major draws to local and international tourists thanks to the qualities of this incredible artist. Pablo Picasso produced a huge number of works within his career, covering paintings, prints, sketches and ceramics amongst many others, and there are now several galleries where you can enjoy good collections of his original works together in person.

An impressive Picasso gallery is now available at Pablopicassoprints.org and features all of his very best paintings available to buy as art print reproductions.

The popularity of Picasso means many of his creations sadly lay in private collections where viewing is rare because of the exceptional price and insurance costs that are attached to them. Fortunately many still remain available for viewing and occasionally these are offered as international exhibitions to ensure that his paintings remain mobile and therefore accessible to as many as possible.

Barcelona is a city closely linked to Picasso’s career and it was here that he gained great inspiration, like many artists before him and since. Barcelona remains the best place to go for those looking to discover Picasso galleries as several permanent collections of his works remain there with a good mixture available including paintings, sculptures and sketches as the biggest attractions. Those who are not able to either visit Picasso galleries in Spain or America, or take advantage of the occasional exhibitions which are carried out in other parts of the world, are best advised to purchase their own reproductions of original Picasso paintings to create their own galleries which they can enjoy at their own leisure.
